Laverstock Gardening Club started in September 2002, and we maintain a photo album of
events from that time. We are affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), and we are
insured. We meet in Laverstock Village Hall on the 4
th Monday most months from 7.30pm. Our
club nights usually involve a visiting speaker on a garden-related topic, and we then enjoy tea
and coffee whilst a raffle takes place. Members can bring plants for sale.
Members can join at any time, and our subscriptions are due in February each year. From
February 2022, the annual membership fee will be £10.00. Members then normally pay £1.50
to attend each club night, and visitors can attend for £2.50.
Each year we have an annual show, currently held on a Saturday in August. This is an
opportunity for club members to celebrate the best of local gardening by exhibiting flowers,
vegetables, and plants they have grown that season. There is healthy competition, lots of fun,
and prizes are awarded across a range of classes. The club organises trips to inspiring gardens,
such as RHS Wisley, Highgrove, and Waterperry Gardens. The club also organises Open
Gardens events where members and other local people open their own gardens on a particular
day to raise money for a local charity.
Club members look after the flower bed on the village green on a rota basis, and we also plant
up and maintain the large tubs outside the village hall. We have a large gazebo available for
members’ use. A committee meets regularly to facilitate club activities, and we have an AGM in
September each year.
