Parish Environmental Action Group

The Parish Environmental Action Group (PEAG) met for the first time on Saturday 14th January 2023. Councillor Barker was joined by residents of Longhedge and Old Sarum. All residents of the parish are welcome to join us.

Published: 20 March 2023

Focus Themes :

  • Encouraging things that have a positive impact on the environment or biodiversity:  active travel (modes of travel that involve a level of activity),  litter-picking,  use of allotments and community gardens

  • Discouraging things that have a negative impact on the environment or biodiversity:  Unnecessary light pollution,  fly-tipping

  • Concerns about the water management features (swales) in Longhedge.

The group recognised some positive aspects from which the Parish already benefits, which include:

  • Local rights of way

  • The open spaces we have like Castle Hill Country Park

  • Chalk streams like the River Bourne

  • The water meadows at Laverstock

  • Existing biodiversity including wildflowers and wildlife

  • The trees we have and are in the process of planting

  • Archaeology (which brings interest to the area and restricts development)

  • Milford Area Preservation Group, the two existing litter womble groups and Wild about Laverstock

  • The work of Wiltshire Wildlife, PlantLife, The Devenish Bradshaw Trust, Wessex Rivers Trust and the River Bourne Community Farm

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN JOINING please email communications@laverstock-ford.co.uk

Currently, the PEAG offers a series of Open talks on themes relevant to residents such as Flooding, Hedgehogs, and the Asian Hornet Threat. We are looking for a volunteer to help organise the talks and organise group meetings of residents who want to grow action on environmental and climate based change within the parish.
