Community Speedwatch
Furious about fast drivers? Want to help reduce speed? Cllr Jones leads this group of volunteers drawn from residents across the parish who supported by the Wiltshire Police, have undergone some basic safety training to help reduce speeding in residential areas of the Parish.
Community Speed Watch: A Collective Effort for Safer Streets
Setting up a community speed watch team is crucial for enhancing road safety and fostering a sense of responsibility among residents. By monitoring and reporting speeding vehicles, these teams help deter dangerous driving behaviours, reducing the risk of accidents and saving lives. Additionally, they promote community engagement and collaboration, empowering locals to take an active role in safeguarding their neighbourhoods. Ultimately, a community speed watch team is a vital tool in building a safer, more connected environment.
I am eager to establish a speed watch team in Laverstock and Bishopdown Farm. The process has been quite challenging, involving the recruitment and training of volunteers, conducting traffic surveys, and ensuring all sites are properly risk assessed. Despite these hurdles, I remain undeterred!
We have successfully risk-assessed a site in Ford and completed traffic surveys on Riverside Road and Pearce Way. However, our team of volunteers has dwindled, and we urgently need more members to maintain a regular schedule of community speed watch events.
